5月17日(日)に開催する明治安田J2・J3百年構想リーグ第17節 ガイナーレ鳥取戦での『アメリカ フレンドシップDAY』(18:00キックオフ／沖縄県総合運動公園陸上競技場) 開催を前に、琉球フットボールクラブ株式会社 川崎龍吾 代表取締役社長とアメリカ出身のFWカルジェニングス選手が5月12日(火)、在沖縄米国総領事館のアンドリュー・オウ総領事を表敬訪問しました。

アメリカフレンドシップDAYで実施する、空手演舞や相撲ショー、書道パフォーマンスといったイベント内容について、川崎より紹介させていただきました。カルジェニングス選手も⁡「沖縄で暮らすさまざまな人たちがサッカーと文化をきっかけにつながる一日になってほしい」と、自身の誕生日でもある同試合への意気込みを語りました。

オウ総領事は昨年のFC琉球ホームゲームに来場くださり、「スタジアムの雰囲気やピッチの迫力に興奮した」と振り返ってくださいました。また同試合の前座試合として開催する、10歳以下の子どもたちの日本チームとアメリカチームによる日米エキシビションマッチに対し、オウ総領事のご賛同をいただき、在沖縄米軍総領事館に後援いただくことになりました。オウ総領事も当日来場予定で、イベントを楽しみにしてくださっているご様子でした。

アメリカ合衆国の建国250周年という節目の年に、ご一緒いただけることを大変光栄に思います。

最後にカル・ジェニングス選手より、オウ総領事へサイン入りユニフォームを贈呈させていただきました。

Courtesy Visit to the U.S. Consulate General Naha

On Tuesday, May 12, FC Ryukyu President Ryugo Kawasaki and American player Cal Jennings paid a courtesy visit to Consul General Andrew Ou at the U.S. Consulate General Naha ahead of “American Friendship Day,” which will be held during FC Ryukyu’s match against Gainare Tottori on Sunday, May 17.

During the visit, President Kawasaki introduced several events planned for American Friendship Day, including a karate demonstration, a sumo show, and a calligraphy performance.

Cal Jennings also shared his thoughts on the upcoming match, which coincides with his birthday, expressing his hope that the event will become an opportunity for people from many different backgrounds living in Okinawa to connect through soccer and culture.

Consul General Ou, who is scheduled to attend the match, appeared to be looking forward to the event. He also spoke about attending an FC Ryukyu home game last year, recalling the exciting stadium atmosphere and the intensity of the action on the pitch.

In addition, Consul General Ou expressed his support for the Japan-U.S. exhibition match between Japanese and American U-10 teams, which will be held as a curtain-raiser before the match. The U.S. Consulate General Naha has agreed to support this initiative.

We are deeply honored to share this occasion during the milestone year marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

Finally, Cal Jennings presented an FC Ryukyu jersey to Consul General Ou.
